I belong to a few forums on the net, which have been analyzing the London riots in minute detail. I find it interesting that most views are either black or white, not grey. What I mean is that the views either find the protestors/rioters as punks looking for a quick thrill and free TV and found the opportunity or you find the view that these people are just doing what many of the oppressed have done. I think its a little of both. I think that these people are oppressed but not in the same line as those who had their personal rights removed or were starving etc but those that felt cut off from our consumer culture. Think about it, when you are pushed to the sidelines in any society you are segregated and ignored. So they are being treated this way by elites but what they want is not their freedom back but the ability to afford shiny things. First ever blog...just a quick thought.
